本剧浓墨重彩展示农民起义波澜壮阔的历史，尽显农民起义英雄本色。更根据史实切入实弊，把曾国藩的复杂品性和“拼命做人”、“拼命做事”、“拼命做官”的处世之道发挥到极至。本剧刻画出曾国藩功名成就崛起时，却辞众将之约，拒黄袍裁湘军，以刚毅为固执，以婉言为退隐。作为清王朝的守护人，逆历史清流而动，最终沦为王权倾轧拼杀的殉葬品。

This is a maxi-series based on the prototype of Tseng Guo-fan’s life who is a famous historical figure in China.

    This maxi-series reveals a constellation of heroes emerging in the history of peasant uprising in vivid details. Furthermore, the history is closely connected to the actual reality of the society so as to fathom the elusive nature of Tseng Guo-fan who strives for life, sticks to principles and commits himself to the court. Tseng Guo-fan declines to be acclaimed emperor by his generals and soldiers as his army destroys the Taiping army. To him, to be against the court is the last thing he would do. As the shield of the Qing dynasty, he doesn’t keep abreast with the trend of the history and ends up with being the victim in the dispute of imperial power.
